Seat for Sheakespeare Theatre in Gdańsk
Competition: 2nd prize

concept and project: Martyna Rajewska, Agnieszka Chromiec /2015

The aim of the competition organised by Shakespeare Theatre in Gdańsk was to find a solution to make the gallery seats more comfortable and integrate movable seats into the interior.

Our team was honoured with second award for overall architectural thinking about the spaô€€±ce of the gallery and ô€€±courage in searchô€€±ing for solutions, even if it meant breaking main assumptions of the competition.

The geometry of the chair is in inseparable relation with geometry of the gallery and further with whole structure of the Shakespeare Theatre. Following the main architect Renato Rizzi, we tried to evolve every detail (curve, edge) of the seat drawing inspiration from what already exists in bigger scale of the building. Human scale of architecture, such as profiles of the handrail, stairs, slopes provided references to work on a seat. The seat that at the end is a result of architecture.
